Hi there. I am an asteroid explorer. I am just about to return to Earth after a long journey into the universe. I have done all kinds of exploration in the universe.
These are the lithium primary batteries by Panasonic that helped me when I made artificial craters to retrieve sub-surface materials from the asteroids I visited. They are also used in the camera that records my activities. These batteries are excellent for long-term storage and are very reliable in the wide range of temperatures (-40℃～85℃), so they are must-have companions on my long voyage into space.
We still have an important mission to accomplish: making the safe return to Earth. These batteries will help in that, too. They will be used for flight data measurement instrumentation in the “Hayabusa” capsule as it re-enters the atmosphere. They will also be needed to transmit beacon signals to indicate the landing position of the capsule, contributing to rapid retrieval upon my return to Earth. By the way, my temperature will go up to over 1500°C, but I am making sure that I will return to Earth safely.
Are you asking if this battery is used on Earth? This battery has long life, so it seems like these batteries have been used as main or backup batteries for various meters, including gas meters, that would be left for 10 years before regular maintenance.
